GM Announces Election of Delphi Themral's General Manager

GM's Pirtle Named Vice President; General Manager of Delphi Thermal DETROIT, Nov. 14 -- Ronald M. Pirtle has been elected a General Motors vice president, and appointed general manager of Delphi Thermal Systems, it was announced today by GM Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President John F. Smith, Jr. Pirtle, 42, has been director of the North American operations of Delphi Packard Electric Systems, based in Warren, Ohio, where he had total business responsibility for Delphi Packard across the U.S. and Mexico. In his new position, he will report to J. T. Battenberg III, GM executive vice president and president of Delphi Automotive Systems. Pirtle succeeds Michael J. Burns, who was named general manager of Delco Electronics, a subsidiary of GM's Hughes Electronics. Pirtle began his career as a GMI student assigned to GM's Chevrolet operations in Flint, Michigan, in 1972. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial administration in 1977 from GMI, and an MBA from Harvard University in 1980. Pirtle joined Chevrolet Motor Division in 1977 as an industrial engineer in the division's Flint Manufacturing Plant. He transferred to the GM corporate financial staff in 1980 where he held various analytical assignments until being named director of overseas operations analysis in 1984. In 1987, Pirtle moved to the Flint Automotive Division of the Buick- Oldsmobile-Cadillac Group as manager of finance and planning. He was named comptroller of the Pontiac Division in 1988, and in 1990, executive-in-charge of the GM Corporate Strategic Planning Group. Pirtle was named finance director at AC Delco Systems in 1992. Delphi Thermal Systems, based in Lockport, New York, is a division of GM's Delphi Automotive Systems. Founded in 1910, Delphi Thermal's principal products include: heater and air conditioning modules, heater cores, condensers, evaporators, compressors, radiators, and oil coolers. Delphi Thermal has facilities in Lockport; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and Dayton, Ohio, as well as international operations in Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Spain, and Venezuela. Delphi Thermal supplies 24 original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers worldwide.
