1997 Honda Prelude Now Available TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 12 -- The all-new 1997 Honda Prelude arrives in dealerships this week and will be priced from $23,200 to $25,700, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. Offered in two models, the Prelude and Prelude Type SH, Honda's technology and performance showcase provides more power, increased interior room and refined ride and handling at a lower price than '96 models. The Prelude model is priced at $23,200 and is powered by a 195-horsepower, 2.2-liter, 16-valve, aluminum alloy engine with variable valve timing and lift electronic control (VTEC). The lowest priced '96 model Prelude with the VTEC engine was $25,880. An optional automatic transmission, featuring a Sequential SportShift mode allows the driver to manually upshift and downshift to enhance the Prelude's performance. The Prelude with Sequential SportShift automatic transmission has an MSRP of $24,200. The Prelude Type SH highlights Honda's newest technological breakthrough, the Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS), for enhanced handling characteristics. The ATTS is standard on the Prelude Type SH and adjusts power to the front drive wheels while turning, to provide neutral handling characteristics during cornering, greatly reducing vehicle understeer. The Prelude Type SH will carry a MSRP of $25,700. All Prelude models offer a long list of standard equipment including dual air bags, power windows, door locks, and mirrors, cruise control, air conditioning, 6-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system with Acoustic Feedback Control and an "Immobilizer" anti-theft system which disables the fuel injection and ignition systems if someone tries to start the car without a digitally coded key. Other standard features include power moonroof with tilt, adjustable steering column, a 12-volt power outlet and front and rear cup holders. In addition to the ATTS, the Type SH adds a leather-covered shift knob and a rear spoiler.
