Ford Wants Fewer Dealers, May Cut Some Lincoln Stores

11/14/96

Ford Motor Company Chairman Alex Trotman has indicated that Ford, much like Mercedes Benz and Chrysler, will terminate some of its least productive dealers in an effort to make others more profitable and thus more aggressive. In the next few years, the company will probably drop several hundred stores. Ford has 5,036 dealers and there is some overlap. Some consolidation may take place in rural markets as well as in the Northeast.
