PRESS RELEASE
Ford to Offer 'Quality Certified' Used Vehicles
DETROIT, Nov. 11 -- Ford Division, the world's
No. 1-selling new vehicle sales division, aims to attract more used
car and truck customers to Ford dealer showrooms with the Ford Quality
Certified pre-owned vehicle program.
The Ford Quality Certified program will be launched in spring 1997
following a mid-November regional roll-out in the southeastern U.S.
It's designed to help Ford dealers capitalize on the market for
previously owned cars and trucks, estimated at 43 million units and
$370 billion in sales, and to enhance the Ford brand.
"The Ford brand is one of the strongest in the industry, and this
program will certainly strengthen it," said Ross Roberts, Ford Motor
Company vice president and general manager of the division.
"Our ultimate goal is to enhance brand loyalty for our company and our
dealers."
Vehicles Eligible
To be sold as a Ford Quality Certified pre-owned car or truck, a
Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle must meet specific criteria. It
must:
* Be no more than four years old (current model or three years prior)
* Have less than 50,000 miles
* Pass the 100-point Ford Quality Certified inspection
Ford Quality Certified cars and trucks will have:
* A one-year/12,000-mile warranty
* 24-hour roadside assistance
* A three-day, 300-mile money-back guarantee
Ford will require special training for participating dealership
managers, sales consultants and service technicians. Only cars and
trucks inspected and reconditioned to Ford's standards will receive
the Ford Quality Certified hologram label.
"These are high-quality cars and trucks backed by the Ford Motor
Company and sold by trained professionals at Ford dealerships,"
Roberts said.
A separate Lincoln program, Lincoln Assured, was tested in June
and will be rolled out nationally in early 1997.
