PRESS RELEASE
ACDelco Sponsors Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in Busch Grand National Series
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 6 -- Beginning with the 1997 season,
ACDelco is sponsoring the Dale Earnhardt racing team in the Busch
Grand National (BGN) series, with Steve Park as the driver. The
recently signed contract is for three years.
"Our organization has a strong association with Dale Earnhardt
that we've built up over many years, and we're proud to expand our
relationship with him," said Kenneth F. Robinson, director of
advertising and sales promotion for General Motors Service Parts
Operations (SPO).
"Dale is a very competitive person, who surrounds himself with
good people, and that's what ACDelco is looking for. His talent,
professionalism and dedication to excellence make him the kind of
person ACDelco wants to be associated with."
New York native Steve Park has raced in three of NASCAR's
divisions during the 1996 season--Featherlite Modified Tour, Busch
North Series and Craftsman Truck Series.
Earnhardt said that, "Trust and respect are two things that Steve
Park will gain early in his BGN career. Steve handles himself in a
very professional manner both on and off the race track. We're
excited to have Steve join our team and are looking for good things to
happen in the near future."
"ACDelco is involved in various motorsports sponsorships, but
NASCAR continues to be the backbone of our auto racing marketing
efforts," noted Robinson. He said that more than 5.3 million people
watched stock-car drivers battle on the oval speedways in 1995.
Other ACDelco motorsports sponsorships include the ACDelco
Challenge Series, sanctioned by the American Speed Association, and
Kurt Johnson in the ACDelco Freedom Battery car on the National Hot
Rod Association circuit. ACDelco is also an associate sponsor of the
International Race of Champions (IROC) series, with ACDelco batteries
and ACDelco RAPIDFIRE(TM) spark plugs as official products. ACDelco
is the battery supplier and title sponsor of the Legends Racing
Series, a mini-car circuit that debuted in 1992.
ACDelco is part of SPO, which is headquartered in Flint, Mich.
