SPX Automotive Diagnostics and Mac Tools Form Strategic Alliance

    MUSKEGON, Mich., Nov. 4 -- SPX Corporation
, its Automotive Diagnostics division, and the Mac Tools division
of The Stanley Works , today jointly announced the
formation of a new strategic alliance.  This alliance will promote the
sale, distribution and service of certain mid-range and high-end
products produced by SPX Corporation and used in the maintenance and
repair of motor vehicles.  The alliance will carry the trade name Mac
Equipment Program.  Products sold through the program will be
co-branded.
    Working closely with more than 2000 Mac Tools distributors, the
Automotive Diagnostics division's 350 person sales team will provide
technical support, demonstrations and training.  This outstanding
combination of distribution and superior products will be bolstered by
the SPX Service Network comprised of 300 highly skilled field service
technicians.
    Commenting on today's announcement of the alliance with Mac Tools,
John B.  Blystone, Chairman, President and CEO of SPX Corporation
