PRESS RELEASE
GM Showroom in New York City Hosts Walt Disney World 25th Anniversary Magic
NEW YORK, Nov. 8 -- Starting Nov. 26, New Yorkers
will do a double-take at the busy corner of 59th Street and Fifth
Avenue as the stage is set for a new General Motors/Walt Disney World
Resort extravaganza.
With a liberal sprinkling of pixie dust, the showroom at the GM
Building will be magically transformed so that guests can share in the
excitement and fanfare surrounding the Walt Disney World 25th
anniversary celebration taking place at the Florida resort through
Dec. 31, 1997.
The exhibit is a celebration of the innovation by both General
Motors and Walt Disney World and a showcase of some of the
new and upcoming milestones for each company.
Guests also will preview GM Test Track, the exhilarating new
attraction presented by General Motors, opening at Epcot in May 1997.
Billed as the longest and fastest Disney attraction ever, Test Track
will provide Walt Disney World guests with high-cranking excitement
and a rare sneak peek into the safety, technology and testing that GM
puts into each vehicle before it shows up in a dealer's showroom.
Via video monitors in GM's New York showroom, guests can
experience the exciting sights and sounds of a few dizzying moments of
Test Track -- revving up to the hair-raising roar down its high-speed
track. Test Track promises to be the next best thing to a proving
grounds experience that only a few in the auto industry ever witness.
Cinderella Castle all done up as a birthday cake, a new
interactive Magic Kingdom parade, a whole new Magic Kingdom land named
Mickey's Toontown Fair where characters meet-and-greet guests all day
long and IllumiNations 25 -- a special Epcot laser, music and
fireworks spectacle -- are among new attractions and shows
highlighting the 25th anniversary at Wait Disney World Resort in
Florida.
At the New York exhibit, guests can sample the new parade,
attractions and entertainment, including a miniature "Cinderella
Castle Cake."
Entering the GM Showroom filed with colorful banners, moving
lights, music and video, guests will step into the middle of an
interactive, fanciful celebration. It all starts with a two-story
re-creation of Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom. Then comes a
glimpse at a dramatic photo mural of the new "Remember the Magic"
parade moving down Main Street, U.S.A.
Plus, there will be a look at Disney's new BoardWalk Resort,
evoking the feeling of a family vacation on the eastern seaboard circa
1930. Guests also will catch a view of Disney's Wide World of Sports,
opening spring 1997 as the premier sports complex for athletes and
spectators alike. Throughout the exhibit, GM vehicles will complement
each Walt Disney World scene.
For a virtual Walt Disney World tour, guests can try out "The Walt
Disney World Explorer," the new CD-ROM from Disney Interactive
containing every single attraction, recreation, hotel and nightspot.
Visitors interested in planning a Walt Disney World vacation will be
invited to The Disney Store Travel Center on Fifth Avenue, just four
blocks down from the GM Building. The GM/Walt Disney World exhibit --
free to the public -- debuts Nov. 26 and will be open seven days a
week through the end of March 1997. Hours and dates are subject to
change.
