GM Announces Tentative Startup Plans for Closed Operations

General Motors Operations Update


WARREN, Mich., Nov. 4 -- As of 11 a.m. Monday, November
4, 1996, the following are tentative start-up plans for those GM
assembly operations affected by work stoppages in Canada and
Indianapolis:


Canadian Work Stoppage:

Lordstown -- resumed normal three shift operations, Sunday, November 3.
Detroit/Hamtramck -- second shift operations return today, Monday, November 4.
Orion -- second shift operations return today, Monday, November 4.
Lansing (M Line) -- will resume two shift operations Tuesday, November 5.

Indianapolis Work Stoppage:

Fort Wayne -- will resume normal operations Tuesday, November 5.
Moraine -- will resume normal operations Tuesday, November 5.
Shreveport -- will resume normal operations Thursday, November 7.
Linden -- will resume normal operations Thursday, November 7.

All employees at GM's Metal Fabricating Division affected by the
Canadian work stoppage have returned to their normal work shifts.
Indianapolis Metal Fabricating employees returned to normal operations
Sunday, November 3.

The majority of GM Powertrain employees affected by the work stoppages
returned to normal work schedules today, Monday, November 4, with the
remaining employees returning on Tuesday, November 5.

GM's Janesville truck assembly facility continues a work stoppage due
to local issues. The work stoppage has affected 4,809 employees at
Janesville, Wisconsin.

With the majority of GM employees returning to normal work schedule
today, this will be our final daily update on GM operations.
