Executive Director Named to GM's North American Operation's International Product Center

DETROIT, Oct. 31 -- John N. Costin today was named executive director of GM's North American Operations (GM-NAO) International Product Center, effective Nov. 1, 1996. The announcement was made by Ronald L. Zarrella, General Motors vice president and group executive, North American Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Group, who said Costin will have responsibility for pursuing business opportunities outside North America for North American designed products. The GM-NAO International Product Center (IPC) was established earlier this year integrating export activities for North American designed products under one umbrella. The IPC works closely with GM's North American Operations to leverage global resources, use common processes and systems on an international level and to help GM maintain a strong customer focus inside and outside North America. John Costin has been executive director of GM International Operations-Aftersales (GMIO-A) since September, 1995 with global responsibilities outside North America for coordinating aftersales activities for Opel/Vauxhall and GM vehicles. He joined General Motors with GM's Overseas Operations in England where he served in a variety of sales and marketing positions. He moved to GM's Adam Opel AG in 1981 based in Ruesselsheim as an area sales manager and later general sales and marketing manager. From there he was appointed director of parts at GM's Vauxhall Motors Ltd., in Luton, England in 1987. He was named executive director of European parts and accessories for GM Europe in Ruesselsheim in 1990 and was made responsible for GM of Europe Aftersales (parts and service) in 1992. Costin became executive director of GM International Operations-Aftersales in September 1995, the position he held until his current assignment.
