GM Announces Contributions in South Africa's Private Sector

General Motors to Contribute $30,000 to South African Non-Governmental Organizations WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 -- General Motors will provide the U.S.- South Africa Leadership Development Program (USSALEP) and the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) with corporate donations totaling $30,000 at a ceremony on Friday, October 25, 11 a.m., at the South African Embassy, 3051 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. GM's contribution of $20,000 to USSALEP is in support of its Black Economic Empowerment Program, which provides executive training and leadership development programs for black South African business leaders who attend the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. GM's donation of $10,000 to MEDUNSA is in recognition that it is the largest health science center on the African continent, accommodating 400 health professionals in training and graduating more than 60 percent of all the black African doctors and dentists practicing in South Africa. The ceremony will be attended by South African Ambassador Franklin Sonn; Robin Hoen, Executive Director for USSALEP; John Chettle, General Counsel for MEDUNSA; Joseph W. Parker, Fleet Sales Manager for Africa, General Motors; Thomas J. Pyden, Director of News Relations, General Motors; and Irvin Hicks Jr., Fleet Account Executive for Africa, General Motors.
