LucasVarity Announces Contracts with Chrysler

LucasVarity Announces Contract Awards From Chrysler DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 22 -- Lucas Body Systems, a business of LucasVarity, will supply the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) controls for the 1997 Model Year Dodge Dakota and Jeep(R) Cherokee. The HVAC controls are manufactured at the Lucas Body Systems plant in Rushford, Minn. The contract value is undisclosed. Production of the 1997 Model Year Dodge Dakota begins this month at Chrysler's Truck/Dodge City Complex in Warren, Mich. The 1997 Model Year Jeep Cherokee starts its production in November 1996 at Chrysler's assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio. The Jeep Cherokee is also sold in overseas markets as part of Chrysler's aggressive plans to expand sales worldwide. LucasVarity's Lucas Body Systems has been a supplier to Chrysler since the early 1950s. The Company has been supplying HVAC controls for the Dodge Dakota since it began production in the early 1970s while the contract to supply the Jeep Cherokee is new business. The Lucas Body Systems HVAC instrument panels contain rotary knobs that control the mode, air temperature and fan speed, all ergonomically developed to provide driver comfort. All controls and functions are designed with easy- to-read labels which appear white in daylight and blue-green at night. The mounting is the main difference between the two HVAC controls; the Dodge Dakota HVAC is vertically mounted and the Jeep Cherokee is horizontal.
