Chrysler U.S. Sales Top 2 Million For Year to Date; Earliest Point Ever In A Calendar Year AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 22 -- Chrysler Corporation's U.S. sales have topped 2 million vehicles for the year to date, the earliest point in a calendar year that milestone has been reached. U.S. sales of new Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, Jeep(R) and Eagle vehicles from January 1, 1996, through October 21, 1996, totaled 2,003,949. That performance makes 1996 the fourth consecutive calendar year in which Chrysler's U.S. sales have exceeded 2 million. Until now, the earliest point for year-to-date sales to top 2 million was November 29, in both 1988 and 1994. Chrysler's full calendar-year record was set in 1988 with U.S. sales of 2,208,057. Through the end of September, U.S. sales in 1996 have been 14 percent ahead of the 1995 rate. Chrysler's 1995 U.S. sales total was 2,164,343.
