GM Announces Lay-Offs in Response to the CAW Strike (as of 10/21/96)

General Motors Update on Operations Affected by the Work Stoppage by the Canadian Auto Workers WARREN, Mich., Oct. 21 -- As of 4 p.m. EDT Monday, October 21, 1996, there have been 18,371 GM North American employees (U.S. and Mexico) affected by the work stoppage in Canada. There has been no change since this morning's report. Our next update will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 1996. We will not speculate on when or which additional facilities could be affected by the work stoppage. Updates on GM facilities affected will be available at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day on PR Newswire and GM's media internet site. Audio updates are also available by calling 800-633-8284, reservation number 2086719. Delphi Automotive Systems will be issuing a separate report at 11 a.m. each day listing individual Delphi facilities that have been affected. Delphi employee totals are included in GM's daily totals.
