10/22/96
Ford Dealers Team Up for the San Francisco 'Race for the Cure(R)' SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 18 -- Three San Francisco area Ford dealers have teamed up with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for the Sixth Annual San Francisco "Race for the Cure." The event, which includes a Coed 5K Run/Walk and a One-Mile Coed Run/Walk will be held October 20 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. An estimated 7,000 people will be participating in the race to support the fight against breast cancer. Ford Motor Company is a national sponsor of the "Race for the Cure," a series of 5K runs/walks held across the country to help raise funds to expand breast cancer awareness, screening, education, and research. To support the event, Broadway Motors of Oakland, Michael Stead's Hilltop Ford of Richmond, and San Bruno Ford will contribute $25 for every new vehicle they sell October 18-20 to the San Francisco Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The local organization funds an early detection program for mammography screening for women with limited resources, as well as numerous community breast cancer grants. "Until a cure is found, the Komen Foundation will provide the key to fighting this disease through education, early detection programs and funding for medically underserved women," said Peter Salzer, Merchandising Analyst, Ford Division, San Francisco Regional Sales and Marketing Office. During the race day, representatives from the three dealerships will be at the Ford Motor Company vehicle display area distributing bottled water, product literature, and other items to race participants. Visitors to the Ford display will also be able to enter a drawing for two $250 gift certificates good toward purchases at Stonestown Galleria. Anyone interested in participating can obtain race entry forms from all San Francisco area Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers.
