GM Announces Lay-Offs in Response to CAW Strike (as of 10/18)

General Motors Update on Operations Affected by the Work
Stoppage by the Canadian Auto Workers

WARREN, Mich., Oct. 18 -- As of 11 a.m. EDT Friday,
October 18, 1996, there have been 7,478 GM North American employees
(U.S. and Mexico) affected by the work stoppage in Canada. We will not
speculate on when or which additional facilities could be affected by
the work stoppage.

Updates on GM facilities affected will be available at 11 a.m. and 4
p.m. each day on PR Newswire and GM's media internet site. Our next
update will be at 4 p.m. Friday, October 18, 1996. Audio updates are
also available by calling 800-633-8284, reservation number 2086719.

Delphi Automotive Systems will be issuing a separate report at 11
a.m. each day listing individual Delphi facilities that have been
affected. Delphi employee totals are included in GM's daily totals.
