Borg-Warner sees layoffs from GM strike

10/22/96

Reuters has reported that Borg-Warner Automotive Inc announced last Friday that it would lay off up to 70 temporary employees at its Frankfort, Ill. plant. It blamed the lay-offs on slowed production at GM due to a shortage of autoparts produced by striking Canadian Auto Workers. Borg-Warner reported that 25% of its earnings come from supplying auto parts to GM. The Borg-Warner plant employs about 480 workers and makes transmission components.
