GM Announces Lay-Offs in Response to CAW Strike (as of 10/17/96)

General Motors Update on Operations Affected by the Work Stoppage by the Canadian Auto Workers WARREN, Mich., Oct. 17 -- As of 4 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 17, 1996, there have been 7,536 GM North American employees (U.S. and Mexico) affected by the work stoppage in Canada. This afternoon, 115 employees at the Livonia Engine plant were added to the list. We will not speculate on when or which additional facilities could be affected by the work stoppage. Updates on GM facilities affected will be available at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day on PR Newswire and GM's media internet site. Our next update will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 18, 1996. Delphi Automotive Systems will be issuing a separate report at 11 a.m. each day listing individual Delphi facilities that have been affected. Delphi employee totals are included in GM's daily totals.
