Land Rover Announces '97 Pricing; Defender 90 Returns, Now
With Automatic Transmission

LANHAM, Md., Oct. 14 -- Land Rover North America, Inc.,
has announced prices for its three '97 models which are now available
at the company's 99 U.S. retailers.

At the top of the line are the Range Rover 4.0 SE and 4.6 HSE. These
two luxury sport utility vehicles have a broad range of unrivaled
features that contribute to their comfort and capability. The
manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 190hp 4.0 SE is $55,500,
while the 220hp 4.6 HSE has an MSRP of $63,000.

The Range Rovers family-oriented stablemate is the Discovery, renowned
for its spacious interior and legendary exploits on Camel Trophy
adventures around the world.

For 1997, the Discovery SD model will now have a choice of five-speed
manual or four-speed ZF automatic transmission (previously a $1,200
option). The new MSRP for the SD is $32,000.

The SE, which adds dual sunroofs and power leather seats, has an MSRP
of $36,000, while the top-of-the-line SE7 with rear air conditioning
and seven passenger seating is now $38,500.

Returning in 1997 is the rugged Defender 90 Station Wagon with a
larger 4.0 litre engine rated at 182hp and, for the first time, a ZF
four-speed automatic transmission. With six-passenger seating
capability, the Defender 90 carries an MSRP of $34,000.

Charles R. Hughes, president, Land Rover North America, said, "We have
set all-time sales records during 1996. With the addition of the
automatic Defender 90, the growing appreciation of Discovery's full
featured value, and the broader array of Range Rover color choices, we
expect even stronger customer response in '97."

"To assure satisfaction," Hughes continued, "we've made sweeping
improvements in our port preparation, product service training and
customer care operations. We are committed to providing the world's
finest four-wheel drive vehicles, through a network of highly trained,
specialized four-wheel drive retail dealers."

Through September '96, Land Rover sales were up 24.9%, totaling
16,723, compared to 13,388 in 1995.
