GM Announces Impact of CAW Strike as of 10/14/96

General Motors Update on Operations Affected by the Work
Stoppage by the Canadian Auto Workers

WARREN, Mich., Oct. 14 -- As of 11 a.m. EDT Monday,
October 14, 1996, there have been 4,250 U.S. GM employees affected by
the work stoppage in Canada. We will not speculate on when or which
plants could be affected by the work stoppage.

Starting today, updates on GM facilities affected will be available at
11 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Our next update will be at 4 p.m. Monday,
Oct. l4, 1996. Updates are also available on GM's media internet
site. The following GM locations have been affected:
