Toyota Considers Supplying Cars to EU from Turkey
10/16/96
Kyodo has reported that Toyota Motor Corp. is considering shipping Corolla-model cars to the European market from its Turkish unit. The arrangement would replace exports from Japan, said company officials. Underlying the possibility is the fact that Turkey joined a European Union pact in January, giving it a tariff advantage for exports to Europe.
Toyotasa Toyota Sabanci Automotive Industry and Trade Inc. in Turkey made a total of 21,000 Corolla sedans and Corolla station wagons for the local market in 1995. During the same year, Corolla exports from Japan to the EU totaled 92,000 vehicles.
