Honda to Stop Selling OEM Recreational Vehicles in Japan
10/15/96
Comline has reported that Honda Motor will stop selling Isuzu and Rover supplied recreational vehicles, known as OEM. Prior to the introduction of its own recreational vehicle, the Oddysey in October, 1994, Honda got OEMs from Isuzu, Rover and Chrysler. When Honda's Oddysey debuted and made a splash, sales of the OEM vehicles dropped, leading to Honda's decision to discontinue OEM sales. Honda will stop receiving Isuzu's "Jazz" and Rover's "Crossroad." Honda started selling the Jazz in October 1993 and set sales goals at 2,000 vehicles a month. Due to the success of its own RV vehicles, however, Jazz sales slowed to 146 vehicles for the period from January until September, 1996. Over the same period, Oddysey sales hit 282,535 vehicles, an increase of 35.2% over the same period of the previous year.
