General Motors Announces Effect of CAW Strike as of 10/10/96

General Motors Update on Operations Affected by the Work
Stoppage by the Canadian Auto Workers

WARREN, Mich., Oct. 10 -- As of 11 a.m. EDT Thursday,
October 10, 1996, there have been 1,950 U.S. GM employees affected by
the work stoppage in Canada. No additional facilities have been
affected, however, we have revised the number of employees affected
from Ypsilanti.

We will not speculate on when or which plants could be affected by the
work stoppage. The next update on GM's U.S. facilities will be at 11
a.m. Friday, October 11, 1996. Updates will also be available on GM's
media internet site.
