World Vehicle Production Down 0.6 Percent

Reuters has reported that on Thursday the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers announced that worldwide motor vehicle production totaled 26.11 million units in the first half of 1996, down 0.6 percent compared to the same period from a year earlier period.
Car production totaled 18.71 million units, down 0.6 percent overall. The Paris-based organization said that car production in the NAFTA countries (Canada, Mexico and the United States) fell 6.1 percent during the period. Light truck production rose 2.3 percent to 6.17 million units, and 60 percent of that total came from North America. Heavy truck production fell 15.2 percent to 1.03 million.
