General Motors CEO Puts Off Trip to India
10/14/96
Reuters reported that General Motors Corporation chairman John Smith has postponed a visit to India which was planned for this month. Company officials say that Smith postponed the visit, which had been scheduled for the 15th of October, because of on-going labor negotiations with the United Auto Workers and the Canadian Auto Workers' strike against the company. No date has been set for a rescheduled visit.
GM has a joint venture in India (GM India Ltd) to produce cars with India's Hindustan Motors Ltd. Hindustan Motors is 50% owned by Mitsubishi, and last week Reuters reported that Hindustan Motors had arranged with GM India Ltd to produce Mitsubishi's Lancer Passenger car.
