Chrysler Announces Record Year for Dodge Ram Pickup after Nine Months
10/11/96
Dodge Ram Pickup has Record Year in Nine Months AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 9 -- Eager buyers have helped break another sales record for the Dodge Truck flagship -- more Dodge Ram Pickups have been sold in just nine months of 1996 than in any full calendar year in Chrysler Corporation history. From January 1, 1996, through the end of September, Ram Pickup sales totaled 288,174. That compares with sales of 271,501 in all of 1995, the previous record year. The new Ram Pickup was introduced for the 1994 model year. Since then, its bold styling and best-in-class payload capacity, tow ratings, powertrains and passenger comfort have propelled it to 34 consecutive monthly sales records. Ram Pickup's share of its U.S. market segment has grown from 6.9 percent in 1993, when 95,542 were sold, to 20.4 percent for the first nine months of 1996. A year ago, it was the 11th best-selling nameplate in the industry. Today it is No. 5.
