Fiat to Cut November Production by 26,500 cars

10/11/96

Reuters has reported that Italian carmaker Fiat SpA informed its unions that it would temporarily lay off workers in November, as it has planned a production cut of 26,500 vehicles. The company will lay off 28,000 workers between November 4-10, 15,000 between November 11-17, 13,500 between November 18-24, and 17,000 between November 25 and December 1.

The layoffs will affect Fiat's northern Italian car plants of Rivalta, Mirafiori, and Arese; Cassino in the south; and Termini Imerese in Sicily. The move will affect production of Lancia K, Delta, and Dedra; Alfa Romeo 145, 146, 155; GTV; Spider; and Fiat Punto and Bravo/Brava models.

The lay offs will follow closures that Fiat has announced for October: a shift for the Alfa GTV and Spider line at Arese in the last two weeks of the month, and production of Lancia K, Delta, and Dedra; and the Fiat Bravo at Rivalta from October 28 to November 3.
