GM Announces Effects of CAW Strike on U.S. Plants as of 10/08/96

General Motors Update On Operations Affected By The Work Stoppage By The Canadian Auto Workers WARREN, Mich., Oct. 8 -- As of 4:00 p.m. EDT Tuesday, October 8, 1996, there has been no change to the status of GM U.S. plants affected by the work stoppage in Canada. As reported yesterday, two GM Powertrain facilities have sent some employees home due to the work stoppage by the Canadian Auto Workers. Total number of U.S. employees affected is 1,850. We will not speculate on when or which plants could be affected. The next update on GM's U.S. facilities affected by the work stoppage will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 1996. Updates will also be available on GM's media internet site.
