Volkswagen Recalls Vehicles in Japan for Heating Defects
10/10/96
Kyodo has reported that Volkswagen Group Japan KK will recall two models of its cars because of defects in the heating system. The recall was announced by Japan's Transport Ministry. The Japanese unit of Volkswagen AG will recall a total of 3,500 Passat and Corrado modes imported between March 1989 and August 1991.
Transport Ministry officials explained that if the engines on these models overheat, the heat could crack or explode resin-made water containers with the result that boiled water inside the defective part of the air heating system could spray over the driver.
