Chrysler Announces 1996 Model-Year Market Share Record

Chrysler Sets 1996 Model-Year Market Share Records AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 7 -- Chrysler Corporation , which set a volume sales record for the 1996 model year, also established U.S. market share records for total truck sales and for its Dodge and Jeep(R)/Eagle divisions. Chrysler's truck sales total of 1,579,060 vehicles for the 12 months ending September 30, 1996, represented a 23.2 percent share of that market segment. That surpassed the previous record of 21.8 percent, recorded in the 1994 model year. The Dodge Division's 8.2 percent industry share for the 1996 model year was 1 percentage point higher than the previous record of 7.2 percent for model-year 1995. Dodge Ram Pickup captured 19.9 percent of its market segment, 4.7 points ahead of 1995's record. Jeep/Eagle's 3.4 percent share was one-tenth of a point above 1993's record 3.3 percent. Chrysler Corporation's market share for the 1996 model year was 15.5 percent, compared with 14.1 percent for the 1995 model year. Chrysler's share of the U.S. market for calendar-year 1996, through September, is 15.9 percent.
