American Honda Announces September Sales

Honda Sets All-Time Model Year Sales Records
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 3 -- American Honda finished the
1996 model year by setting several new, all-time sales records,
according to sales figures released by the company today.
1996 Model Year sales highlights
-- Honda Division set a new, all-time model year record with 727,320
sales, 7.2 percent more than the 1995 model year and surpassing its
earlier record by more than 18,000 sales. (Previous record set in 1990
with 709,244 sales.)
-- The Civic recorded its best model year in its 24-year history, with
287,718 sales, up 5.6 percent from the previous year.
-- Accord model year sales were 367,137, up 6.5 percent from the
previous year.
-- American Honda posted its second best model year ever, with 831,527
total sales, for a 7.6 percent increase from 1995. (All-time record
set in 1990 with 849,549 sales.)
-- At 104,207 sales, Acura Division closed the model year with a
significant increase of 10.9 percent from the previous year.
-- Sales of domestically produced Honda and Acura vehicles increased
32.4 percent to 674,381, and accounted for more than 81 percent of
total model year sales for American Honda.
In month-end performance, American Honda posted 67,087 sales for
September, up one percent over last year. Honda Division was up nearly
one percent with 58,524 sales, and the Accord led individual model
sales at 32,926, up 28.3 percent from last year. Acura Division sales
were up 1.7 percent for September with 8,563 vehicles.
Year-to-date sales increases also continued, with American Honda up
5.7 percent with 632,425 sales, Honda Division up 5.3 percent with
552,045 sales and Acura Division up 8.9 percent with 80,380 sales.
