VW May Export New Pickup To The U.S.

10/07/96

There's another "Caddy" coming our way, and in this case it will be a new pickup truck from Volkswagen. The vehicle, unveiled in Europe a month ago, is slated for European retailing, but the German car maker is studying the U.S. for sales, as North American truck sales are going through the roof. The Caddy is built in Czechkoslovakia, has a one piece all-steel body, and two seats in the cab. It has a capacity to carry 1,170 pounds and is powered by a 1.6 liter gas engine. The last VW pickups in the states were sold in 1984.
