Chrysler Sales Up Sharply, G.M. Sales Off
10/04/96
Chrysler Corp reported a robust 22% increase in its September U.S. sales of cars and light trucks, compared with a year ago, capping its best model year ever. General Motors says its sales fell off about 2%, despite a 13% rise in sales of its light trucks. Chrysler's strong performance was led by sales of its pickups, mini-vans and sport utilities, which were up 24% for a September record. Car sales also showed strong gains, up 17% overall. It was the No. 3 domestic auto makers second-best September ever. GM has seen its car sales lag in recent months. Every GM domestic division saw sales declines last month compared to a year ago. However Chevrolet and GMC truck showed slight gains.
