Toyota Announces Opening of North Kentucky Offices

Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America Opens its Doors ERLANGER, Ky., Oct. 1 -- Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TMMNA) officially opened its doors for business today at its northern Kentucky offices in Erlanger. The new company will support Toyota's growing manufacturing operations in North America. TMMNA will support operations at the Camry and Avalon plant in Georgetown, Ky.; the T100 truck plant currently under construction in Princeton, Ind.; the newly announced engine plant in Buffalo, W.Va.; TABC, which produces truck beds and catalytic converters in California; Bodine Aluminum, which produces engine parts in Missouri; and Canadian Autoparts Toyota (CAPTIN), which makes aluminum wheels in British Columbia. The new organization will also coordinate with and provide manufacturing support services to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc., in Ontario and New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc., in California. TMMNA is a consolidation of several manufacturing-related support functions previously conducted in Japan and at other North American affiliate companies. Its president is Mikio Kitano, who will also retain his position as president and chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc., in Georgetown. "This new organization will increase operational efficiency and accelerate the decision-making process related to Toyota's manufacturing activities in the U.S. and Canada," Kitano said. TMMNA has eight divisions: Accounting and Finance, Business Planning/Production Control, General Administration, Legal/External Affairs, Production Engineering, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and the Toyota Supplier Support Center. It also has a Corporate Planning Office. Currently, about 350 employees are working at the Erlanger office. Total employment in 1998 will be nearly 600. Most employees at TMMNA have previously been with other Toyota affiliate companies.
