Subaru of America Announces Third Quarter Sales

10/03/96

Subaru Performance Remains Strong; Strongest Sales Quarter Since 1990

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Oct. 1 -- Subaru of America,
Inc. (SOA) today announced its September sales results. Subaru sales
hit a year-to-date total of 85,495 units -- up 21.7 percent over the
same period in 1995. The figures represent the company's 11th
consecutive month of year-over-year increases with September sales
totaling 10,864.

For the third straight month, Subaru posted retail sales in excess of
10,000 units, representing its strongest retail sales quarter since
1990. The Legacy once again led sales results with 8,069 retail
sales. Within the Legacy line, the Subaru Outback accounted for 4,567
retail sales. In addition, the Outback Sport represented 1,102 retail
sales, signifying a strong start for the newest addition to the
Outback family.

"We expect this success will continue with the recent launch of our
1997 model line-up," said Fred Adcock, SOA vice president, sales. "The
addition of the Outback Sport to the Outback family will draw more
consumers to Subaru."
