Mitsubishi Announces September Sales

Mitsubishi Motors' September Sales Up 14% from Previous Year;
Built-In-Illinois Passenger Car Sales Increase 69%

CYPRESS, Calif., Oct. 1 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of
America, Inc. (MMSA) reported today that its September 1996 vehicle
sales of 15,409 units marked a 14 percent increase over the previous
year.

Sales of Eclipse sports coupes, Eclipse Spyder convertibles and Galant
mid-size sedans -- vehicles built at Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of
America, Inc. in Normal, Ill. -- represented 11,208 sales units and
marked an increase of 69 percent over domestically produced sales
units the previous September.

Eclipse sales in September of 6,234 units represented a 57 percent
increase over the previous year. Eclipse Spyder convertible sales were
strong at 1,264 units, with demand outpacing supply.

"The all-new '97 Mirage four-door sedan entered dealers' showrooms in
the middle of September to complement the all-new '97 Mirage Coupe
which went on sale in late August, and coupled with strong sales of
our Eclipse sports coupe and Eclipse Spyder convertible, September was
a very positive month for us," said Kevin Ormes, group vice president
of sales and marketing at MMSA.

Ormes also noted that during the second week of September, MMSA
launched an all-new television and print ad campaign featuring the new
tagline "Built For Living(TM)."

Towards the end of this month, Mitsubishi Motors' all-new '97 Diamante
LS, built in Australia, will go on sale in dealers' showrooms. In late
December, Mitsubishi Motors' new entry into the sport utility market,
the '97 Montero Sport, goes on sale in the U.S.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of
subcompacts, mid-size sedans, sports coupes, grand touring sports
cars, luxury performance sedans, light trucks and sport utility
vehicles.
