Isuzu Philippines Corporation Sets Sales Goals

09/30/96

Reuters reported that Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), which began making vehicles last July, has announced plans to sell 2,100 vehicles in the last six months of this year, 9,800 units next year, and 18,600 units in 2000. IPC employs 200 people in its new headquarters at the Laguna Technopark, south of Manila, and expects the payroll to rise to 800 by the year 2000.

IPC President Morikazu Watanabe said, "we plan to establish a respectable presence in the Philippine automotive scene with a vehicle mix that caters to Filipino motorists' need for reliable, durable, fuel-efficient and technologically advanced pick-ups, off-road vehicles, trucks and buses." Isuzu's line-up includes the luxurious off-road Trooper, as well as two- to four-ton trucks and buses.

IPC is a joint venture between Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Ayala Corporation, and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation. Isuzu and Mitsubishi each own 30% of IPC, while the others own 15 percent.
