Isuzu to Make Engines in Poland
09/26/96
Nikkei English News reported that Isuzu Motors Ltd. will be the first Japanese automaker to manufacture car engines in Poland. The company will establish a Polish subsidiary in 1999, and make 300,000 1.5 and 1.7 liter diesel engines a year. The engines will be used in small passenger cars.
The company will produce 200,000 engines in the first year of operation, and boost output to 300,000 units after two to three years. The firm will make direct-injection engines--which double fuel efficiency--for installation in General Motors cars. It will also ship engines to Japanese and European automakers.
Isuzu Motors is currently negotiating preferential treatment for the new company with the Polish government. It will probably choose a location in southern Poland by the end of the year, officials said.
