GM Announces 19978 Chevrolet Venture Minivan Prices
09/23/96
Chevrolet Venture/ Value at the Right Price for American Families; All-new Venture Minivan at $20,495 Includes Industry Exclusives WARREN, Mich., Sept. 19 -- Prices for Chevrolet's all-new Venture minivans, with the equipment and room that American families have requested, will start at $20,495 (including destination charge), Chevrolet announced today. "Venture is priced right," says Karen C. Francis, Venture brand manager. "We didn't mark it up artificially in order to mark it down with cash incentives. This strategy has led to sales records for the recently introduced Cavalier models and Lumina sedan. "And our pricing includes standard features on all Ventures which customers told us set these vehicles apart from the pack. Unlike the lowest priced Dodge Caravan or Ford Windstar, Venture standard equipment includes: air conditioning, power door locks, highest standard minivan horsepower (180 horsepower), power mirrors, Daytime Running Lamps, and a Sungate(R) solar-coated windshield that keeps the interior cool and also functions as the radio antenna." Families can select from four Venture models: regular wheelbase, 3 door ($20,495); regular wheelbase, 4 door ($22,104); extended wheelbase, 3 door ($21,660); and extended wheelbase, 4 door ($23,269). All prices include destination charges. Chevrolet expects its volume leader to be the Venture extended wheelbase LS, 4-door model, popularly equipped at $24,319. The vehicle includes features not available on comparably equipped volume leaders, such as Dodge Grand Caravan SE and Ford Windstar GL. Those features include: power passengers' side sliding door, dual mode audio that allows front- and rear-seat passengers to listen to separate audio sources and the most flexible seating combinations in today's minivan market, with easy-to-remove seats that weigh less than half of competitor's bench seats. "Our dealers know they've got a great value because before we developed our first ad, or priced our vehicle or delivered the first one to a dealer, they've already ordered considerably more new Ventures than they've sold current minivans so far this calendar year," says Francis. "More than 30,000 Venture dealer orders have already been received, and we expect that number to jump with today's pricing release." Dealers' enthusiasm has been fueled by what they've been reading about Venture in the newspapers:"They outdo the benchmark Chrysler minivans in some important ways ...(Venture) felt smooth and solid, like the one-piece unruffled feeling you get in a European luxury car...GM probably can boast the best engine- transmission combination of all minivans. The 3.4-liter, 180-hp V6 was a smooth and willing performer...And GM engineers have tuned the package to deliver a nice treat: The vans move away from standstill with a luxury car's creamy smoothness...The two sliding side doors open wider than Chrysler's..." -- USA Today, Jim Healey reviewing the new General Motors minivans"...Chevrolet Venture LS, a new and exceptional minivan.... These new models (Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac TransSport and Oldsmobile Silhouette)... match the Chrysler minivans in every way. In some ways -- acceleration, handling and passenger comfort -- GM's Mini Three beat the Chryslers hands down.... GM also added lots of standard equipment.... And the Venture comes with one of the biggest, smoothest engines available in the minivan market.... Best minivan performance on the road -- fast and nimble even on New York's streets. Exceptionally comfortable. Pleasant middle-class styling ... that drew raves.... Ride, acceleration and handling: Triple aces. Beats all current minivans in all three categories. Surprisingly responsive in tight situations and panic maneuvers. Excellent braking." -- Washington Post, Warren Brown reviewing the new GM minivansVenture value -- available at Chevrolet dealerships during the fourth quarter of this year.
