Mitsubishi Motors Announces Safety Recall of Certain 1992-1995 Models Equipped With Potentially Faulty Brake Hoses Mitsubishi Dealerships Will Service Vehicles With Appointments Free-of-Charge Calif., Sept. 19 -- During September, October and November, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) will be sending letters to owners of certain Mitsubishi Motors' vehicles requesting that they bring their vehicle in for repair at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Under certain driving conditions, reduction in braking efficiency can occur due to a leakage of brake fluid through front upper brake hoses used in the 1992-1994 Diamante luxury performance sedans; 1993-1995 Diamante Wagons equipped with ABS brakes; 1991-1994 3000GT grand touring sports car models equipped with anti-lock braking system (ABS) brakes; and front lower brake hoses in 1992-1994 Montero sport utility vehicles. Mitsubishi Motors has determined that for the vehicles being voluntarily recalled, under conditions of full lock steering and full suspension travel the left or right front wheel-side brake hose may crack, thus resulting in brake fluid leakage, reduction in braking efficiency and illumination of the vehicle's brake warning lamp. "Approximately 93,000 vehicles in the U.S. are potentially affected by this recall," said George H. Croker, manager, national customer service, for MMSA. "Upon receiving notification from MMSA, and after the customer has scheduled an appointment with their authorized Mitsubishi dealership, the repairs -- which involve replacement of the left and right front wheel-side brake hoses -- require approximately one hour to complete, but might take longer depending upon the dealership service department's schedule." Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, mid-size sedans, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans and sport utility vehicles.
