Volvo Introduces Lighter European Truck
09/23/96
Reuters reports that Swedish vehicle manufacturer AB Volvo announced that its truck division has introduced a lighter truck, the FLC. Volvo said the FLC belongs to the 7.5 ton class of trucks, which is one of Europe's biggest truck segments at about 40,000-60,000 trucks. Volvo expects to deliver two thirds of the FLC trucks it makes to Germany and Britain, thus securing five to 10 percent of the European market. Britain and Germany are the two single biggest markets within the 7.5 ton class segment, accounting for about 66% of it.
A statement from Volvo said, "with the FLC, Volvo Trucks is broadening its product range down in weight classes and this enhances Volvo's offer on the European marketplace. The Volvo FLC is part of Volvo's concentration on its core business."
