General Motors Leads All Manufacturers in Strategic Vision Vehicle Experience Survey WARREN, Mich., Sept. 16 -- General Motors was the top-ranked manufacturer for customer satisfaction in total value offered by their vehicle purchase and ownership experience, according to results of the 1996 Strategic Vision, Inc. total value index. The survey of customers after 90 days of ownership assesses both total quality and perceived value. Total value, as defined by Strategic Vision, is a combination of factors including quality, price, operating costs, resale value and perceived future reliability. Ronald H. Haas, GM vice president, Quality and Reliability, said, "To be the leader in both Total Quality and Total Value in five vehicle segments is further indication that we are making progress in producing products and services that customers recognize as the best in the industry." "While the Strategic Vision survey confirms the positive results we have seen in other surveys as well as our own information, we must continue to improve in the areas which customers have told us are key factors in the total ownership experience. Areas such as product features, comfort, warranty coverage, the overall dealership experience, value, quality and reliability are factors that customers weigh heavily in their purchase decisions," stated Haas. "Those areas have become the differentiators in today's market, and those areas are where we have focused our efforts," Haas said. The five segments in which GM won top honors were: Saturn SL for small cars; Buick LeSabre for large cars; Saturn SC for sports cars; Oldsmobile Cutlass for mid-specialty cars; and Chevrolet Tahoe for full-size sport utilities. Strategic Vision, Inc. is a California-based consumer research firm that for the 1996 survey contacted some 50,000 new vehicle owners.
