U.S. Transportation Safety Board to Question Passenger-Side Air Bags
09/18/96
Reuters reports that USA today published a report saying that Members of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were expected to testify against passenger-side air bags in a board meeting yesterday. The members are expected to say that the air bags are unnecessary and contribute to deaths.
The article did not give any sources for its information, but said the NTSB was likely to criticise the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for failing to do more to prevent air-bag injuries and deaths.
The NTSB could recommend the NHTSA drop its passenger-side air bag requirement or ask for the installation of a switch to disable them.
