09/18/96

General Motors owns 50% of Saab, and there are indications that the General may increase its stake in the ailing Swedish auto maker. There is a clause in their agreement that says GM can buy more of Saab by 1999-2000. In June GM put in $262 million to help Saab survive. GM has had control over the investors group since 1990. The auto maker has lost $1.7 billion since 1990 and last year they sold 98,713 cars world-wide. and they need additional funding as they attempt to sell 150,000 units per year.
