GM Announces Good Results in J.D. Power APEAL Survey

09/16/96

GM Models Top J.D. Power and Associates APEAL Survey

WARREN, Mich., Sept. 12 -- Eleven of the 35
segment-leading models recognized by J.D. Power and Associates in
their 1996 Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) survey
were General Motors products. No other manufacturer had
nearly as many segment-leading models (see following chart). The
J.D. Power APEAL Study is a survey of new vehicle purchasers and
leasees who have had their vehicles for 3 months. The survey focuses
on evaluations of how well customers like their vehicles based on
ratings of more than 100 vehicle attributes.

Ronald H. Haas, GM vice president of Quality and Reliability, said,
"We are pleased with the results which show GM leading the competition
in delivering vehicles with the right combination of quality,
performance, features, and styling to create customer
enthusiasm. Leadership in appealing products is a major factor in GM's
lead over all other major manufacturers in delivering Overall Customer
Satisfaction."

He continued, "Each GM vehicle manufacturing group had multiple models
among the segment leaders -- credit for these outstanding results goes
to the entire GM Team of employees, dealers, retailers and suppliers."
