General Motors Increases Third Quarter Production Forecast

WARREN, Mich., Sept. 9 -- Revised North American
production estimates announced today by General Motors
slightly increased third quarter production estimates by 5,000 units
to a total of 1,245,000 vehicles.

In making the announcement GM noted that increases in the production
forecast since June totaled 50,000 units. The increases in schedule
are due to the continuing strong demand for full size pick ups and
utilities as well as an indication of the success of 1997 model
launches.

In addition, GM also announced today its initial fourth quarter
production estimate of 1,320,000 units. The total production forecast
for GM's North American operations for 1996 now totals 5,332,000 units
for the calendar year.

General Motors produced a total of 484,000 vehicles in the United
States, Canada and Mexico during the month of August. Of the number of
vehicles produced, 287,000 were passenger cars and 197,000 were
trucks.
