Audi Will Assemble Luxury Cars in the Philippines

Reuters has reported that Volkswagen's luxury car unit Audi AG announced its plans to assemble vehicles for the Asian market at a plant in the Philippines with partner Proton Philipinas Corporation. Audi says the plant will produce A4 and A6 luxury cars. The company's licensing contract for the plant runs through the year 2000 and calls for more than 2,000 luxury vehicles to be assembled in the nation yearly.

Audi said Asian market growth prompted the deal. The new plant in Manila will be Audi's fifth foreign site.
