Mitsubishi Motors Will Offer Comparison Test Drives

09/10/96

Nikkei English News has reported that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will offer comparison test drives of its new sedan in Japan. The new model comes with the world's first direct-injection gasoline (GDI) engine; the company hopes that comparison drives will highlight the new engine's efficiency and allow potential buyers to compare the new sedan with Toyota and Nissan cars.

Mitsubishi will sponsor comparison test drives from October through December, at eight rented Japanese racetracks. At each comparison drive event, 80 drivers will choose two cars and compare the efficiency of the GDI engine with a rival model in the same class.

Mitsubishi says that the new GDI engine improves fuel efficiency by 35% and torque by 10%. The new GDI injects gasoline directly into the cylinder rather than mixing gasoline and air prior to injection, as is the case with conventional engines.
