GM Announces Restoration Parts Exhibit
09/09/96
GM Restoration Parts on Display in GM Building DETROIT, Sept. 5 -- A 1950's-style drive-in restaurant motif complete with a juke box that plays "oldies" music is the centerpiece of a new General Motors Restoration Parts display in the GM Building's East Exhibit Hall for a week beginning Monday, Sept. 9. Three restored vehicles -- a yellow 1969 Camaro Pro Street car, 1966 bright red Corvette and 1962 white Corvette; all meticulously restored, utilizing hundreds of parts available through the GM Restoration Parts Program -- complete the nostalgic scene. New parts for vintage GM cars and trucks available from official GM Restoration Parts licensees are featured in the exhibit. According to Robert D. Cheyne, manager of trademark licensing for GM Service Parts Operations (SPO), the new display was created to showcase the GM Restoration Parts Program to the growing group of automotive enthusiasts who are restoring their vintage GM vehicles to their original showroom condition. "With GM Restoration Parts, enthusiasts really can bring back the good old days," said Cheyne. More than 16,000 official parts are available for vintage GM cars and trucks, he said. The display is open to the public and will be in the East Exhibit Hall on the first floor of the GM Building, 3044 West Grand Boulevard, through Sept. 13. Exhibit Hall hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cheyne explained that the GM Restoration Parts Program is evidence of GM's commitment to the restoration parts market. "Through the program, restoration enthusiasts have access to quality, original equipment parts and accessories produced to specifications by approved, licensed manufacturers using original blueprints and, when available, original GM-owned tooling. Our program is extensive and growing. Since our licensee offerings are based on market demand, we even have hubcaps for 1932 Chevrolets." Through licensees, GM parts that are in demand by restoration enthusiasts, but have been discontinued by GM can be manufactured. Equity Management, Inc., the exclusive agent for the GM Restoration Parts Licensing Program, identifies market demands for certain vehicle parts and then finds licensees to make and market the parts as GM Restoration Parts. Licensees use the GM Restoration Parts Emblem to identify their commitment to supplying vintage parts that meet original quality standards and specifications.
