Chrysler's Motorsports

09/06/96

Lou Patane, Chrysler's executive director of motorsports, described MOPAR's growing presence in motorsports as being much like that of a professional sports expansion team. He said that Chrysler's plan is to race what they sell. Technology and training at Chrysler also plays a role in their programs. He said they assign engineers to race programs and they can test themselves in intense racing situations. Chrysler will concentrate on production based racing such as the North American Touring car championship. They will also field cars (Vipers) for IMSA GTS-2, and run at Daytona, LeMans and Sebring. Other Dodge supported events will be the Craftsman truck series, the Neon cup amateur racing program, Pro Stock in NHRA, World of Outlaws sprinters, and USAC Silver Crown.
