BMW Announces Sales for August 1996 and the Calendar-Year-to-Date

Third Straight 10,000 Plus Monthly Sales Achieved as BMW
Continues Record-Breaking Pace
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Sept. 4 via Individual Inc. -- BMW
of North America, Inc. continued its record-breaking pace, reporting
an all-time record for the month of August at 10,031 sales, bringing
the total for the first eight months of 1996 to a record of 70,819.
The sales performance represents an increase of 19.9 percent over the
8,367 sales recorded in August, 1995 and a year-to-date increase of 12
percent over the 1995 total of 63,246, the previous January to August
record. This is the fourth time in the company's twenty-one year
history and the third month in a row that sales have exceeded 10,000
units.
"Deliveries of our exciting new Z3 roadster were the highest monthly
total since its debut earlier this year, but we still have many more
orders to fill," commented BMW of North America, Inc. president Victor
Doolan. "Equally satisfying are the results achieved by our 5 and 7
Series luxury performance sedans, for which demand continues to be
quite strong," added Mr. Doolan.
In the United States, BMW of North America, Inc. and Land Rover North
America, Inc. are members of the BMW Group. The consolidated
U.S. sales for August are 12,171 (BMW 10,031; Land Rover 2,140) with
year-to-date sales at 85,340 (BMW 70,819; Land Rover 14,521).
